Imran was just 16 when he made the difficult and dangerous journey from Iraq to the UK. He had no friends here, no family, and no place to call home.
Imran could not speak English, and missed his old life, his school, and the people he loved. He was struggling to build a new life after the trauma of leaving everything and everyone behind.
Since arriving at a local YMCA in the East of England, Imran has accessed sessions and activities to build up his confidence and feel like he has a home in the UK. He has taken part in cooking classes and English lessons, and he enjoys going on long walks to explore his community. He has a new hope for his future.
“YMCA has helped me a lot. They have helped me feel safe and supported.”
As a RoomSponsor you help YMCA provide more than 7,000 spaces for young people across England and Wales, 674 of which are in the East of England.
Dear Imran so pleased your getting the support you need and hope as you settle into life in England you make lasting friendships and have opportunities to discover your gifts and talents to take you into a career you find fulfilling and empowering. I wish you the very best for the future and for those you’ve had to leave behind in Iraq or that you’ve lost I pray all will be well. Kindest regards Anne-Marie 😊
